Pulaski & Perry Counties CASA held its annual Light of Hope event on Thursday, October 24th. Champion of CASA, First Pentecostal Church of North Little Rock, hosted the breakfast event in their beautiful rotunda. Students from the church's school served as excellent hosts and hostesses throughout the event.
Parent Counsel Suzanne Lumpkin was honored with the Starfish Award. Ms. Lumpin has worked in the juvenile court system for 16 years advocating for children and families, and CASA has been a large part of Suzanne's interactions with the families she serves.
CASA premiered its newest outreach video at the event which was introduced by guest speaker, Sarah Faith Groom. Sarah was born with the challenge of withdrawing from the effects of the cocaine she was exposed to while in utero, and she lived with constant instability for several years until she entered the foster care system. Sarah spoke of her journey and how her CASA, Terry Gregory, walked with her and advocated for Sarah to pursue adoption, which happened one month and 8 days before she turned 18.
Through the giving challenge, CASA was able to raise over $14,000.00 to assist in serving the children of Pulaski and Perry Counties, working to assure that every child in foster care has a voice.
